Ducks Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
Coach Randy Carlyle had no interest in using his team's busy recent schedule as any kind of excuse for Monday night's 2-1 loss at Detroit, or more specifically, for the whopping 47-16 advantage in shots on goal piled up by the Red Wings.
The game was the third in four days for the Ducks, who were coming off a 4-1 victory Sunday at Carolina.
"It's a tough back-to-back, but we're going to play back-to-backs all year," Carlyle said. "We have 18 of them. Thank you, schedule-makers. So we better get used to it."
Detroit's identical 19-5 edge in shots in each of the first two periods was similar to the 17-3 margin the Hurricanes put up in the second period a night earlier. |

Niedermayer leads Ducks past Hurricanes (AP)
The Anaheim Ducks might have the Carolina Hurricanes to thank for their strong six-week run. Since losing Oct. 19 at home to the Hurricanes to drop to 1-5-0, the Ducks have gone 13-3-3. The latest victory was a 4-1 decision at Carolina on Sunday night. The Ducks have some of hockey's most recognizable names: the Niedermayer brothers, defenseman Chris Pronger, Teemu Selanne and rising star Ryan... |
Hiller, Getzlaf help Ducks blank Blackhawks 1-0 (AP)

Jonas Hiller was lucky -- and good. The Swiss goalie made 26 saves, and Ryan Getzlaf scored late in the second period in the Anaheim Ducks' 1-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday. Getzlaf sent a backhander past Cristobal Huet with 4:41 to play in the second, and Hiller made six saves in the third to secure the Ducks' third consecutive win and his second career shutout.

Selanne scores twice, Ducks beat Avalanche (AP)

The Anaheim Ducks were looking for a better start at home, and their power play provided it. Teemu Selanne scored two power-play goals and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 29 saves in Anaheim's 4-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night. Looking to end a 1-3-1 stretch on home ice, the Ducks took an early lead on a first-period goal by Selanne.

Ducks slip past Stars (AP)

Ryan Getzlaf used his personal scouting report on Dallas goaltender Marty Turco to give the Anaheim Ducks a shootout win. Getzlaf scored in the third round of the shootout after goaltender Jonas Hiller denied two of three Dallas shooters and the Ducks beat the Stars 2-1 on Saturday night. Dallas' Brad Richards and Anaheim's Corey Perry converted in the first round of the shootout.

Stempniak's OT goal ends Ducks' road streak (AP)

The Anaheim Ducks had three defenders back on the overtime goal that ended their five-game road winning streak. One too many, as it turned out. Lee Stempniak beat the odds when he broke in alone against the trio, scoring an unassisted goal with 2:21 left in the extra period to give the Blues a 3-2 victory Friday night.

Ducks defenseman Beauchemin has knee surgery (AP)
Anaheim Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin underwent surgery Thursday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He is expected to be sidelined about six months. Beauchemin was injured during a 4-3 overtime loss to Nashville on Nov. 14. He will be placed on long-term injured reserve. |
Ovechkin stars in Capitals' win over Ducks (AP)

Alex Ovechkin is dangerous enough when the Washington Capitals are at even strength. Having him on the power play is tantamount to piling on. The reigning NHL MVP scored with the man advantage to extend his goal streak to five games and added three assists, sending the Capitals to a 6-4 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night.
