Hurricanes Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
While patience seems to be wearing thin around the Hurricanes, the starting goalie had finished each game until Sunday night.
And the reason there was a goalie change came because of an undisclosed injury to Cam Ward, not a coach's decision based on performance.
While that was the case on this night, all of coach Peter Laviolette's decisions tend to be coming under increasing scrutiny. The Hurricanes lost their third home game in a row, and the restlessness around the team seems to be growing.
As for the goalie situation, it was the first in-game goalie change for any reason for the Hurricanes this season. So this could bring another game missed because of injury into the equation for the Hurricanes, who have constantly been dealing with roster-availability... |
Niedermayer leads Ducks past Hurricanes (AP)
The Anaheim Ducks might have the Carolina Hurricanes to thank for their strong six-week run. Since losing Oct. 19 at home to the Hurricanes to drop to 1-5-0, the Ducks have gone 13-3-3. The latest victory was a 4-1 decision at Carolina on Sunday night. The Ducks have some of hockey's most recognizable names: the Niedermayer brothers, defenseman Chris Pronger, Teemu Selanne and rising star Ryan... |
Hurricanes 3, Flyers 2, OT (AP)

Sergei Samsonov used his speed to snap both a winning streak and losing streak. Samsonov scored with 1:07 left in overtime and the Carolina Hurricanes snapped the Philadelphia Flyers' six-game winning streak 3-2 Friday. "You try to get as much speed as you can to avoid the pokecheck," Samsonov said of his winning goal.

Flyers beat Hurricanes for 6th straight win (AP)

An exhausted Matt Carle headed for Philadelphia's bench, but none of his teammates noticed. So he stayed on the ice and wound up scoring the goal that gave his team to its longest winning streak in years. Philadelphia won its sixth straight Wednesday night, beating the slumping Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 behind two goals and an assist from Simon Gagne.

Campbell's goal lifts Panthers over Hurricanes (AP)

Nobody seemed sure how Florida scored its winning goal Monday night. That hardly mattered to the Panthers. Gregory Campbell's goal snapped a tie late in the second period and sent Florida to a 3-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. Ville Peltonen initially was credited with the decisive goal, but a scoring change after the game gave it to Campbell.

Hurricanes recall Dwyer from AHL (AP)
The Carolina Hurricanes recalled forward Patrick Dwyer from their American Hockey League affiliate Monday, a night after winger Patrick Eaves was injured. Dwyer is being recalled on an emergency basis after Eaves sustained an upper-body injury in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Nashville Predators. It's the second time this season the 25-year-old Dwyer was recalled. |
Arnott, Weber lift Predators past Hurricanes, 5-2 (AP)

Shea Weber helped the Nashville Predators to a big lead, then scored the goal that eliminated any chance of a stunning comeback by the Carolina Hurricanes. Weber scored his second goal with a straightaway shot midway through the third period, answering the homestanding Hurricanes' final-period flurry and helping the Predators take a 5-2 win on Sunday.

Staal scores 3 goals to lead Canes past Coyotes (AP)

Nothing like a visit from the Great One to get Eric Staal scoring again. Staal had three goals in less than 24 minutes to lead the Carolina Hurricanes past the Phoenix Coyotes, 5-2 on Friday night. Busting out of an eight-game scoring drought in a big way, Staal completed his fifth career hat trick in the final minute of the second period to help the Hurricanes claim their season-high third...
