Spartans serve notice with GLI crown
Michigan State's championship in the 40th Annual Great Lakes Invitational Tournament was significant for a few reasons. The first was that the Spartans beat the No. 6 team in the country (New Hampshire) and then the third-best team (Michigan), according to the USA TODAY/USA Hockey Magazine poll.


Wisconsin wins squeaker on home ice
Andrew Joudrey scored in the seventh round, giving No. 4 Wisconsin a shootout victory over Yale after the teams tied 1-1 Friday. Friday's game goes down as a tie for both teams; the shootout determined that Wisconsin will meet Ferris State for the Badger Shootout title and Yale will face Clarkson for third place.


Michigan St. upends No. 3 Michigan in overtime
Colton Fretter had the puck and an open net in front of him in overtime. So he did the natural thing: He slammed the puck into the net. Fretter's goal 9:24 into the extra period gave Michigan State a 2-1 win over Michigan and the Great Lakes Invitational Tournament championship Thursday night at Joe Louis Arena.


BGSU's Sigalet battling MS for Hobey contention
Bowling Green senior goaltender Jordan Sigalet revealed on Saturday that he has been suffering from multiple sclerosis, an inflammatory disease of the central nervous system, since being diagnosed in early March. The native of Surrey, B.C., has missed only three games because of the disease.


Roundup: Mankato comes back on Wisconsin
Minnesota State, Mankato, rallied to nip No. 3 Wisconsin 4-3 in overtime on Friday. David Backes' second goal of the game 72 seconds into OT won it after Adam Gerlach had tied it for Mankato at 17:20 of the third period.


Roundup: Minnesota, Wisconsin win; tie in Providence
Minnesota and Wisconsin won their Saturday ice matches, with the Gophers scoring on four of six power plays en route to beating Colorado College 7-2 and Robbie Earl's third-period goal lifting the Badgers past Minnesota Duluth 3-2. Also, David Cacciola's 60 saves helped Providence tie Boston College 1-1.


Canisius bans Bognar after alleged exposure incident
A Canisius College hockey player was suspended indefinitely Monday after a weekend run-in with police that began when he allegedly exposed himself at a restaurant. Daniel Bognar, 21, was arrested early Sunday after police said he exposed himself and fought at a fast-food business.


Ice roundup: Minnesota routs No. 1 Michigan; Wisconsin falls
Ryan Potulny scored twice early in the opening period as No. 3 Minnesota coasted to a 5-1 win over top-ranked Michigan. It was the 16th consecutive home win for the Gophers. Also Saturday, Michigan State upset No. 2 Wisconsin 4-0 in the College Hockey Showcase.


Roundup: Denver clips Minn.; Michigan edges Mich. State
Paul Stastny scored two goals as 11th-ranked Denver beat No. 3 Minnesota 5-2 Saturday night, ending the Gophers' six-game winning streak. Eslewhere, sophomore T.J. Hensick scored two goals as No. 2 Michigan beat Michigan State 5-4 to sweep the two-game series between the two schools.


Michigan upends Michigan State 4-2
David Rohlfs broke a tie with a breakaway and Michigan pulled away for a 4-2 win over Michigan State on Thursday night. The No.2-ranked Wolverines (8-2-1, 6-1 CCHA) also got goals from T.J. Hensick, Eric Werner and Mike Brown and solid goaltending from Al Montoya for their seventh win in eight games.


Roundup: Wisconsin tops North Dakota; Maine survives
In the span of just 47 seconds, Ross Carlson and his Wisconsin linemates turned a negative into a positive. Carlson score two goals and No. 6 Wisconsin survived a crazy final seven minutes to defeat No. 4 North Dakota 5-2 on Saturday and complete a two-game sweep. Elsewhere, No. 9 Maine defeated UMass-Lowell 5-4.


No. 9 Maine cuffs No. 7 New Hampshire 3-0
Goaltenders Matt Lundin and Jimmy Howard combined to make 24 saves Sunday as No. 9 Maine shut out No. 7 New Hampshire 3-0. Howard started for Maine before leaving late in the second period with an injury. Lundin took over amid an offensive flurry by the Wildcats but stood his ground.


Boston U's Curry handcuffs No. 9 Maine
John Curry stopped 25 of 26 shots to help Boston University to a 2-1 win over No. 9 Maine on Sunday. It was the third straight win for the Terriers, who are 3-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in Hockey East. Jimmy Howard had 30 saves for the Black Bears (5-4-0, 1-1-0).


Roundup: Denver drops Wisconsin
Jeff Drummond Drummond's second goal of the game broke a 3-3 tie less than three minutes after it was forged in the second period, as the 11th-ranked Pioneers defeated No. 5 Wisconsin 5-3


Denver hits its goal: NCAA title
Denver won its first national championship since 1969 when Adam Berkhoel made 24 saves in a 1-0 defeat of Maine on Saturday. Gabe Gauthier's first-period goal stood up, but only after the Pioneers survived Maine's 6-on-3 advantage in the final moments.
