Panthers Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
The Panthers' first game in Tampa Bay this season was a fun occasion for the visitors as Florida scored a franchise-tying record five power-play goals in a 7-4 win to spoil the Lightning's season opener.
Florida hasn't enjoyed the rest of its time against the cross-state rivals.
Tampa Bay beat the Panthers for the fourth straight time on Saturday night, scoring four goals in the second period and rolling to a 6-3 win.
The Lightning won the season series against Florida for the first time since its Stanley Cup season of 2003-04 by winning four of the six games. The Panthers have dominated play between the two for most of the rivalry, although that sure wasn't the case on Saturday. |
St. Louis gets hat trick as Lightning top Panthers (AP)
Martin St. Louis had a memorable milestone game. St. Louis scored three times in his 900th NHL game, Steven Stamkos added his league-leading 34th goal and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Florida Panthers 6-3 on Saturday night. "Weird things happen sometimes in situations like that," St. Louis said. |

Samuelsson scores 2 goals as Panthers top Caps 4-2 (AP)
The Washington Capitals have been struggling on the road, and the Florida Panthers took full advantage. Mikael Samuelsson had two goals and the Panthers beat the Capitals 4-2 on Wednesday night. Stephen Weiss and Shawn Matthias also scored for Florida, and Scott Clemmensen stopped 26 shots. Tomas Fleischmann had a pair of assists for the Panthers, who moved into first place in the Southeast Division... |
MacKinnon: Hit to wallet may be needed to stop head hits (The Edmonton Journal)
There was good news on the concussion issue in the NHL Tuesday, and it did not emanate from the strange little news conference called to update the hockey world on the status of Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby’s ongoing recovery. Sure, it was encouraging to hear that Crosby, in fact, does NOT have a fracture in the area of his C-1 and C-2 vertebrae, as had been reported over the weekend. |
Growth means Southern hockey not just for NHL now (AP)
Children fill every bench and sprawl over the floor lacing up hockey skates, eager to hit the ice. Parents hold jackets and patiently wait. Just another typical Saturday morning at the rink. Except this is the middle of Tennessee. Atlanta may not be able to hold onto an NHL team, and ponds in the South are for fishing and swimming. |
