Devils Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
When Brian Gionta talked about the Devils' five-game winning streak after they beat Florida the other night, he said his team had actually been playing "good hockey" for the past 10 games, not just the five.
The Devils had actually lost four of those five games, but the general feeling was the club played well enough to win more of those games—the effort, the execution, was there.
Saturday night at Pittsburgh, playing the third of five straight road games, New Jersey reverted to some of the problems it tends to have on occasion: becoming spectators and forgetting to work hard enough to win a hockey game. At least that's the way it was for the first two periods, when the Devils fell behind 3-0 and had no chance of catching up. Thus, the end of the winning... |
Crosby's hat trick leads Pens past Devils (AP)

The rest of the NHL had better take notice. Sidney Crosby is living up to his superstar image. Crosby had his first career hat trick at Mellon Arena and added an assist, and the Pittsburgh Penguins snapped the New Jersey Devils' five-game winning streak with a 4-1 victory Saturday night. Crosby, who has six goals in three games to give him a team-high 13 for the season, scored twice Friday night at...

Devils beat Panthers in overtime (AP)

Johnny Oduya made sure the New Jersey Devils skated off with a full two points. The defenseman scored his first goal of the season with 55.5 seconds left in overtime to give New Jersey a 3-2 victory over the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night, the Devils' fifth consecutive victory. Oduya scored on a wrist shot that went between Craig Anderson's pads and his glove.

Zubrus has 4 goals in Devils' win (AP)

Dainius Zubrus had one of the best offensive games in New Jersey Devils history. Zubrus tied a team record with four goals to help New Jersey win its season-high fourth straight game, 7-3 over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday. "I had chances," Zubrus said. "Since I've played with Brian Gionta and Patrik Elias, I've had more chances than I had before.

Devils D Mottau suspended 2 games for elbowing (AP)
New Jersey defenseman Mike Mottau received a two-game suspension from the NHL on Saturday for elbowing New York Islanders forward Frans Nielsen. The Devils announced the suspension the day after the game with the Islanders, and the NHL confirmed it later Saturday. Mottau came across the ice 3:22 into the third period and caught Nielsen with an elbow that laid out the center. |
Devils beat Islanders 5-2 (AP)

Kevin Weekes put a tough outing behind him with a milestone victory. Weekes made 25 saves for his 100th NHL victory, and David Clarkson and Travis Zajac scored 10 seconds apart late in the first period in the Devils' 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders on Friday night. It was a strong bounceback effort for Weekes in his first start since giving up four goals in two periods in a 5-2 loss to the...

Elias, Gionta lead Devils past Panthers (AP)

After spending most of his career as a backup, Scott Clemmensen is relishing a chance to be the New Jersey Devils' starting goalie. Clemmensen stopped 23 shots, and Patrik Elias and Brian Gionta each had a goal and an assist in the Devils' 3-1 victory over the Florida Panthers on Thursday night. The night belonged to the 31-year-old Clemmensen, who came within 11:18 of his first shutout in more...
