Suddenly, the normally offensively challenged Devils have become a scoring machine, and because they have they've started to make up real ground in the Eastern Conference.

Bursting out of the All-Star break with four straight wins, Pete DeBoer's team has scored 19 goals (not counting the one you get credit for with a shootout win) and sat just two points out of fourth place in the conference after their 5-2 victory over Pittsburgh on Sunday in Newark.

By beating the Flyers and Penguins (and scoring 11 goals in doing it) over the weekend, New Jersey was sixth in the conference, a point behind Pittsburgh (with a game in hand) and three points behind Philadelphia.

Devils F Elias fined by the NHL (AP)
New Jersey Devils forward Patrik Elias has been fined $2,500, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for boarding Montreal Canadiens forward Mike Blunden during a 5-3 win on Thursday. The incident occurred at 18:54 of the first period. A minor penalty for boarding was assessed on the play.
