Moscow officials place blame for Cherepanov death (AP)
Moscow regional prosecutors said an ice arena manager and a hockey club director were negligent in the death of rising Russian star Alexei Cherepanov. Prosecutors said in a statement posted on their Web site Tuesday that the manager of the Moscow region arena where Cherepanov was playing failed to coordinate proper emergency medical services before the game. |
Hossa's hesitation move gives Wings win over Ducks (AP)
Marian Hossa was in no rush to let another shot fly after Detroit opened with a few dozen unsuccessful attempts. His patience paid off. Hossa faked Anaheim goalie Jonas Hiller into going down early, then scored the go-ahead goal 1:48 into the third period to give the Red Wings a 2-1 victory over the Ducks on Monday night. |
Rangers Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
The schedule gets eminently more difficult this week after the Rangers required two shootout wins to go a pedestrian 3-2-0 in five straight games against teams with records below .500.
A home game Wednesday against the surging Penguins—who are 9-2-1 in their last 12 games and fresh off a Sidney Crosby hat trick against New Jersey Saturday—kicks off a three-game string this week in which the Rangers also will face Montreal and Calgary—a trio that has posted a combined record of 41-28-8 this season.
In other words, the Rangers need to be much better in all facets than the rancid performance on home ice in a 4-0 home loss to Florida on Sunday. They had won six of their previous eight games, albeit with four of those victories coming in shootouts. |
Anderson makes 37 saves in Panthers' 4-0 win (AP)
Craig Anderson is making Tomas Vokoun's starting job look tenuous. Anderson got the call for the second straight game over Vokoun and made Florida coach Peter DeBoer's somewhat surprising decision pay off with a 37-save shutout in the Panthers' 4-0 victory against the New York Rangers on Sunday. "I thought he would go back to Vokie," he said. |
Rangers beat Panthers in shootout (AP)

The New York Rangers overcame another late tying goal to complete a Florida sweep. Markus Naslund and Nikolai Zherdev scored in the shootout to give the Rangers a 4-3 victory over the Florida Panthers on Friday night. Henrik Lundqvist allowed Rostislav Olesz's goal in the tiebreaker, then stopped the final two attempts to improve to 5-1 in shootouts this season.

Naslund, Lundqvist help Rangers win in shootout (AP)

Markus Naslund did his part to help the New York Rangers stay perfect against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Naslund scored twice and had one of two New York goals in a shootout to lead the Rangers past the Lightning, 3-2 on Wednesday night. "We know that this building is a tough building to play in, and they're a desperate team," Naslund said.

Dubinsky ends scoring drought in Rangers' win (AP)

The starts still aren't going the way the New York Rangers would like, but they sure enjoyed this finish. Brandon Dubinsky scored his first goal in 14 games and Nikolai Zherdev had three assists for the Rangers, who shook off another early deficit and surged to a 4-1 win over the slumping Phoenix Coyotes on Monday night.

NHL eyes more matches against European clubs (AP)
The NHL and hockey's world governing body said Monday they want to stage more games between North American and European club teams. The sides have agreed to create a working group that will explore ways of building on the success of the first Victoria Cup last month, which saw the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) bring the New York Rangers to play European champion Metallurg Magnitogorsk... |
