Capitals await word on Laich's left knee injury (AP)
The Washington Capitals awaited word Monday on the severity of Brooks Laich's left knee injury, a setback that comes at a crucial time in the team's hopes for a fifth straight Southeast Division title. Coach Dale Hunter said Laich's injury was "not major" and that the durable center was "day-to-day," but the coach also said that Laich had yet to be evaluated by team... |
Capitals Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
Alex Ovechkin has faced his share of shutdown defensemen in his seven-year career.
It might be fair to say Zdeno Chara is his worst nightmare.
On Sunday the two behemoths—Ovechkin is 6-foot-3, 230 pounds and Chara is 6-foot-9, 255—faced each other for the first time this season. The Bruins captain won this war, holding the Capitals captain to seven shots and no points.
"I love to play against him," Ovechkin said. "We had a pretty good battle. I know he's going to hit me and he knows I'm going to hit him. I enjoyed playing against him."
Ovechkin saw 20:49 of ice time and was double shifted when Brooks Laich left the game midway through the second period with a knee injury. |
Thomas' apolitical return: Bruins top Caps 4-1 (AP)
Tim made 35 saves Sunday in the Boston Bruins' 4-1 win over the Washington Capitals. Playing about 10 blocks from the White House -- a place he famously avoided because of his political views two weeks ago when the reigning Stanley Cup champions were honored by President Barack Obama -- Thomas shut out the Capitals until late in the third period as the Bruins snapped a two-game losing streak. |

Tim Thomas' return to the nation's capital was less political and more successful, with the goaltender making 35 saves Sunday in the Boston Bruins' 4-1 win over the Washington Capitals. Playing about 10 blocks from the White House -- a place he famously avoided because of his political views two weeks ago when the reigning Stanley Cup champions were honored by President Barack Obama --... |
Capitals' Vokoun shuts out Canadiens (AP)
Alex Ovechkin could afford to be a bit rusty in his return to the Washington Capitals because goalie Tomas Vokoun was anything but. Vokoun made 30 saves for his third shutout of the season and Alexander Semin scored on the second of Washington's two penalty shots in the Capitals' 3-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. |
